While we may hear it often, it’s important to prioritize self-care for optimal mental and physical health. Self-Care Awareness Month is from June 24 to July 24, and it’s also celebrated in September, but self-care is important every day of the year. At Philia Care, we’re committed to promoting self-care among the seniors we serve. Focusing on self-care can actually improve all areas of a person’s well-being.
There are many benefits to taking care of yourself. Adequately caring for oneself improves energy levels and feelings of happiness and reduces stress, creating better mental health and clarity. Taking care of yourself with proper nutrition, exercise, and medical care can reduce the risk of cancer, heart disease, stroke, and other diseases. Proper self-care enables seniors to feel a sense of purpose and satisfaction in their lives.
There are many things seniors can do to promote self-care on a daily basis. Creating a regular routine of exercise and developing healthy eating habits are great places to start. Below are several other suggestions for helping seniors improve their self-care routine:
Keep in mind that it is always best practice to consult with your physician or healthcare provider before beginning a new activity or exercise routine.
If you or someone you care about could benefit from caring and compassionate in-home care, please reach out to Philia Care. Our team is passionate about promoting self-care practices among the aging and elderly. We also provide routine care and companionship for seniors.
