Owner & Founder

Philia is a home care agency based in Washington, DC and is founded and managed by Kira Tewalt, a sandwich generation working parent.


Kira has seen firsthand how our older citizens, our most wise and experienced family and community members, are often undervalued in our society. She has noticed too that we sometimes concentrate on caring for their physical needs but forget their spiritual and emotional needs. Kira founded Philia to provide individualized care for the wellbeing of the whole person, enriching each person’s physical and emotional health and fostering their connections to family and community.
