Featured Caregiver: Rosaline M.

Rosaline shared that she is originally from Sierra Leone, West Africa. She also lived in France with her husband for 14 years. She came to the United States in 2016 and started working with home care clients in 2018 but has been helping and taking care of others for many years prior to coming here. Her passion is to help people. She is currently going to school for International Development.

What motivated you to become a Caregiver?

People always told me I was so compassionate, sweet, and caring with others. I always want to help people and be sensitive to their needs. I didn’t want to be a nurse even though friends said I should. I didn’t want the stress part of that, but to help people aspect of it. I decided to instead pursue being a CNA where I give to the community and take my love for people to help them.

What do you enjoy about being a Caregiver?

I enjoy helping people and giving my knowledge to them. I can give my love to my clients and also counsel them in ways. I go outside of my job description, as being a caregiver is more than just medication reminders, and ADL’s, it is building a bond with them and being their friend. I like to take charge of my environment and space around me. I want to have a clean environment for the client as well.

Tell us an interesting or memorable story you had with a client while providing homecare?

I had a client I worked with who at times would not speak a lot and sit down in his chair. He and I became good friends and when he wasn’t in the best mood I would always sing and dance around him. I would love to see his beautiful smile come out.
