  • Cancer is a group of diseases characterized by uncontrolled growth and spread of abnormal cells. There are over 100 types of cancer, and any part of the body can be affected.
  • There are an estimated 1.8 million new cancer cases diagnosed and 606,520 cancer deaths in the United States.
  • About 67% of Americans diagnosed with cancer survive five or more years after their diagnosis.
  • There are over 17 million cancer survivors in the US.
  • Caregiving by family and friends can be physically and emotionally draining and even cause depression if the caregivers are not careful to take time for themselves.

How Philia helps clients with cancer:

  • Caregivers are trained in how to help clients with cancer-specific symptoms
  • Help with ambulation as clients may experience balance problems, fatigue, and/ or weakness and be more likely to fall.
  • Encourage drinking to prevent dehydration.
  • Accompany and provide companionship and emotional support during clinic treatments.
  • Provide personal care such as bathing, grooming, and dressing.
  • Perform household tasks such as laundry, light housekeeping, and meal preparation.

Philia caregivers are provided augmented training on how to care for clients who have cancer.

Philia's Care Process

Nurse Assessment

A Registered Nurse provides a complimentary in-home client assessment and home safety inspection

  • care plan is created and tailored to the unique needs of each client. 
  • Home safety improvements are recommended.
  • The client's fall and hospital admission risks are assessed. Mitigation actions are recommended.

Assigned Care Specialist 

You will be assigned a Care Specialist to coordinate care. This person will get to know you and your care needs and will ensure we are meeting or exceeding your expectations.

Matching

Using our proprietary matching system, Philia's Care Specialist selects the Care Team based on skills, personality and other requirements.Complimentary In-Home Registered Nurse Assessments

Periodic Check-ins

Periodic Check-ins are done starting the first day after care begins and no less than every 30 days to monitor our care quality.

Care Quality Optimization

The Care Specialist may identify training needs or switch out the Care Team Member as needed to optimize care quality.

Care Team Development Program

Our Care Team Members have professional development plans that identify their career growth aspirations and areas that need improvement. Our training program facilitates their development and speciality training is provided to help them with the specific needs of their clients.
